As part of your rental package, you are purchasing a prepaid Barbados SIM card. The SIM card is the brain of the phone and is what allows you to make calls within Barbados to other cell phones and internationally. The card is prepaid so that you will never receive a phone bill and will always be in complete control of your expenditures. If needed, you can easily add more talk time to the card by purchasing scratch off recharge cards and entering in the recharge code on the handset. Since incoming calls are always free—even if you have depleted your credit—you can still receive incoming calls from anywhere in the world.

Our Rental Packages
There are two dual rental packages available. The Standard Dual Rental Package features either 2 Ericsson R520, Haier D6000 or a Motorola T280 tri-band cell phones. These are all standard "candy bar"-style cell phones. Our Deluxe Dual Rental Package features 2 small flip-style phones. There are 2 phone options. The V180 is a color phone with speakerphone capabilities and the V66 phones come with a car charger and a spare battery per phone. Should I Rent or Buy?
Most of our customers prefer the convenience of owning a GSM phone over renting one. You can enjoy the convenience of owning a brand new cellular phone that works in over 200 countries, including the US, for just a few dollars more than renting a phone, and it's yours to keep. If you plan on taking other trips overseas, you will save money buying rather than renting a cell phone. With one of our prepaid United States SIM cards, this is also a great solution for having an extra cell phone, a "starter" phone (great for youngsters) or an emergency phone. As with all prepaid SIM cards, there are no bills to pay nor contracts to sign.
We offer a wide assortment of GSM cell phones for purchase and you can use any of our GSM phones in conjunction with the SIM cards we offer. However, for added convenience and savings we have created a package deal of cell phones and SIM cards. This package is highly popular with our customers and the phone will also work in the US with one of the many carriers using the GSM system and, of course, with our prepaid US SIM cards.

We suggest that you charge your phone according to the manufacturer's recommendations prior to your departure so that you are ready to use your cell phone upon arrival.

Please take the time to read our rental agreement.
** Your order will reflect the purchase of the appropriate SIM Card plus a deposit to cover the cell phone rentals ($300 for all countries, except Italy, Talk Abroad, Bahamas which are $420). We will refund the deposit to your credit card minus the fee for the rental period you requested upon the successful return of your phone rental unit. Please note late fees may be assessed if applicable.
Rental periods will commence on the date of departure until the date that the cell phone rental is presented to FedEx in order to be returned to Cellular Abroad. The tracking information will advise us regarding the drop-off date. We are sorry but rentals cannot be shipped to or from customers overseas.
Important Faqs for Rentals - When do I order?
You can order as far in advance as you like - even months prior to your departure. We will not ship your rental until the appropriate date in order for you to receive it in time for your departure.
- What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
You can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in prior to 4pm Pacific Time. Even if you are leaving early in the morning, we can usually have your cell phone rental arrive to you in time. Please call our 800 number to order to ensure that we can get you your cell phone rental in time.
- When do I get the phone?
You will receive your cell phone rental a day or two prior to your departure.
- Does the cell phone come charged?
Yes it does. You need only insert the SIM card, which is easily done (please let us know if you would like for us to do this for you).
- What happens if I cancel?
As long as your cell phone rental has not been shipped, you will only be charged the reserve fee ($25 per phone). In the case that your rental has been sent out, you are only responsible for a one week rental plus the shipping.
- When do I get charged for my cell phone rental?
You will be charged upon checkout for the full security deposit. Please see our Rental Agreement
- Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
No, we do not, and this is why. Technically, you are purchasing the phone from Cellular Abroad and then we are buying it back from you. The vast majority of credit card companies offer their own insurance against loss or damage for purchases, but usually not for rentals. Therefore, and given this premise, you are already covered for accidental loss or damage...at no extra charge!
